Suave Sounds - Time Is Now

Copied!edit Lyrics
original text at lyrnow.com/156705
Verse 1

In America
You’re a target if you’re black
Walking around the streets
With a bull’s eye on your back
Like they did to Walter Scott
The black man that was shot
Following a traffic stop
When he tried to flee a cop
And then there’s Eric Garner
Who didn’t pick a fight
NYPD choked him out
And that’s how they took his life
So even when it’s not their fault
You know they get assaulted
By the boys in blue, it’s nothing new
And turn them into culprits
And I don’t understand
How a cop can take the stand
Kill a man that’s unarmed
And proclaim it self-defense
This happens too often
It’s just reality
But there’s things we can’t accept
Like police brutality
Like the three cops that stormed
In to serve a f****** warrant
And a couple seconds later
They shot Breonna Taylor
The Kentucky EMT
With no one there to save her
Made a living out of saving lives
And that’s how they repaid her

Chorus

It’s time to turn the page
Put your fist in the sky
If you stand for change
It’s time to do what’s right
Take your brother by the hand
‘cause together we’re going fight
It’s time stop the violence
Show our children we can love
And leave the hate behind us
It’s time to stop the pain
Let’s change the world together
So that no one dies in vain

Verse 2

Ahmaud Arbery
Was jogging then was shot
After being chased by two white men
In a pick up truck
In the state of Georgia
An open-carry state
He looked somewhat suspicious i
S what they tried to say
But according to the video
He wasn’t trying to mess
But then struggled for the shotgun
Took two bullets to the chest
Blood all on his shirt
And then he just collapsed
How we living in an era where
Whites keep killing blacks?
And then you got this cop
Out in Minneapolis
Put his knee on George Floyd’s neck
Until he was unconscious
He said he couldn’t breathe
He was yelling for his momma
Even though she’s up in Heaven
I know she heard him holla
The killing of a black man
Unarmed and handcuffed
Was enough to spark outrage
And get the nation riled up
And you can feel the tension
Right now it’s at it highest
It’s been almost 30 years
Since the Rodney King riots

Chorus

It’s time to turn the page
Put your fist in the sky
If you stand for change
It’s time to do what’s right
Take your brother by the hand
‘cause together we’re going fight
It’s time stop the violence
Show our children we can love
And leave the hate behind us
It’s time to stop the pain
Let’s change the world together
So that no one dies in vain

Verse 3

History is supposed to teach us
What we didn’t learn
Turn on the television
And watch our cities burn
From New York to L.A
And all that’s in between
They had to deploy
The National Guard to intervene
Can’t believe that this is happening
Is this really real?
Think about it, ain’t much changed since
The days of Emmett Till
Black America’s on edge
After all the disrespect
After all of the oppressed
Rest assured that they won’t rest
S***, Malcolm X said it best
“that’s not a chip on my shoulder;
That’s your foot on my neck.”
Racism is alive
We want our respect
We tried to protest peacefully
To no effect
So now you got the youth
Standing up to the law
And f*** the President
Because what he wants is a war
And it has been said
“there’s no peace without freedom,”
And I know my rights
But you still have to read them

Chorus

It’s time to turn the page
Put your fist in the sky
If you stand for change
It’s time to do what’s right
Take your brother by the hand
‘cause together we’re going fight
It’s time stop the violence
Show our children we can love
And leave the hate behind us
It’s time to stop the pain
Let’s change the world together
So that no one dies in vain

It’s time to turn the page
Put your fist in the sky
If you stand for change
It’s time to do what’s right
Take your brother by the hand
‘cause together we’re going fight
It’s time stop the violence
Show our children we can love
And leave the hate behind us
It’s time to stop the pain
Let’s change the world together
So that no one dies in vain

Suave Sounds
Yea

Rest in peace
Yo it's time for change

To all those that we lost in the struggle
Uh huh, yea, let's stand for change

You'll always be remembered
Uh uh

And we're going to keep on fight
For our children's sake

This one's for you, because the time is now

Biography

edit bio
Songwriter, producer and music executive, Suave Sounds embodies the classic tale of the superhero with a secret IDENTITY. Originally from Ecuador, Suave Sounds grew up in a small town in Connecticut listening to 90’s Hip-Hop legends, 2Pac and The Notorious B.I.G. , while idolizing the King of Pop, Michael Jackson and music mogul Diddy.

In high school, Suave Sounds began writing rhymes in the classroom, eventually filling notebooks with music lyrics. While studying at the University of Maryland, he spent much of his time in his dorm room teaching himself how to make beats. He later built a basement studio in his parent’s house where he immersed himself even deeper into the world of music; writing, producing, and recording music obsessively, while studying Hip-Hop greats JAY-Z, Kanye West, Eminem, and Dr. Dre. In 2006, Suave Sounds released his first project titled “High Pressure.”

While he made a name for himself in the music industry as an executive, he continued perfecting his craft, spending nights writing, producing, and recording music in his home studio in Miami. In 2016 he released the album “What’s Left of Me.”

In 2020, Suave Sounds began working on his new project. For a year a half he wrote and produced music, crafting some of his finest songs to date. After releasing a number of singles, including Me & U (No Way Out), Confessions and Forever, on October 1, 2021, Suave Sounds released the album Identity.
