My entire life i’ve been defined by a scar on my chest
It’s a line, it’s a mark, it’s a crest
I tried to understand what it meant
I embarked on a quest
Askin’ my parents ‘cause i’d seemingly forget
Or maybe i just needed reassurance, like yes
This scar on my chest, it’s no reason to fret
I just happen to be born with a hole in my heart
A congenital disease, i’m told it’s called an atrial septal defect
Asd for short if we abbreviate
Mom and dad were wondering’ how they could alleviate this problem in my heart
Turns out it wasn’t hard
One year old and the doctors in the hospital got it sewn up back together as it should’ve been
My souvenirs were life and a scar
And i’ma make the most of both; i’m goin’ far

I recollect as a youngin’ growin’ up feelin’ off
At the time, i wrote it off as bein’ weird
I didn’t click with other peers
Just a mere observation
Searching for the truth but for granted i was taken
I was just a loner missin’ a component
A lock without a ley or a printer lackin’ toner
Hyperfixated on linguistics and video games
And collectin’ all sorts of electronics
Of course, i can’t forget about typewriters
Lookin’ back, a smack in the face
The underlying cause of it all
It’s like, it’s obvious, right?
Pre-dsm-5, asperger’s it was called
Now it’s a level one autism spectrum disorder
It’s sorta like havin’ a force field encapsulatin’ social interactions
And yet, other passions and interests are massively encaptivating

I chose to benefit from both ‘cause those inflicted with either can relate

When scars come up in conversation
That’s my cue to relate and interact
And get involved in the social situation
That’s one asd helpin’ another one
And when i find a subject i wish to focus on

I researched the subject for years on end
And then i know by heart the most irrelevant facts anybody could imagine
With so many passions, i doubt my ability
To juggle the time i devote to every hobby
I’m more in tune with myself now
My presence and the image i project unto the world now
With lessons i learn, i evolve and i always reflect
How my internal battles i be fightin’ and winnin’
