Lost Dog Street Band - Hubbardville Store

Copied!edit Lyrics
original text at lyrnow.com/1964144
Well, it looked like rain when we laid Papa down
But he sure looked good in that suit of brown
From The Hubbardville Store

A small gray stone and a box of pine
And two red roses tied with twine
From The Hubbardville Store
Dust to dust, who could ask for more

It stood like a ghost on the paved highway
They'd come in their cars and tell us to pay
The Hubbardville Store

And I was just a kid and I couldn't plow ground
And Mama would cry when the man come around
From The Hubbardville Store
Look yonder Mama, here comes hard times

Well, Mama was weak but her pride was strong
She said we'd pay before too long
Oh, the Hubbardville Store

But Mama knew better, I could see it in her eyes
Cause if money was meat we couldn't draw flies
From The Hubbardville Store
Look out Mama, oh, here comes the man
See Lost Dog Street Band LiveGet tickets as low as $52They took our house and they took our land
They took everything but the clothes in our hands
Oh, the Hubbardville Store

And I swore to God I'd do 'em all in
But Mama cried Son, don't turn to sin
For that Hubbardville Store
Look out now, you better hold on, boy

Well, I felt like a man on that moonless night
With a steady hand and one matchto light
The Hubbardville Store

And the people came a-running from miles around
They hid their smiles while it burned to the ground
Oh, the Hubbardville Store
Well, come on down, who could ask for more

Well, they gave me ten years but they ain't built it back
Cause I burnt everything right down to the sacks
Of that Hubbardville Store
Dust to dust, who could ask for more
Oh, the sky's on fire from the Hubbardville Store
Look yonder Mama, could you ask for more

Biography

edit bio
“Lost Dog Street Band was created in the winter of 2010 after a long and bitterly cold trek on foot to Tennessee. Splitting paths from their former project Barefoot Surrender, Benjamin Tod and Ashley Mae set out to craft their own original music as a duet. Drawing on inspiration of hard times on the road, personal tragedy, the power of love (and of course their dog) Benjamin continued on with a long legacy of songwriting that cuts to the quick. Knitting together musical influences from traditional country, old time, and blues Ashley Mae and Benjamin began to refine what is their original take on American storytelling songs. With their packs, fiddle, guitar, banjo, and pup they set out on foot traveling coast to coast by hopping freight, and hitchhiking with the vision of sharing their music. Along the way, they met many inspirational musicians. Amongst them was Nicholas and Shannon Ridout with whom they formed the project Spit Shine in the year 2012. After the tragic loss of their dear friend Nicholas, Lost Dog Street Band hit the road in search of solice and a deep seated need to continue sharing music as a source of comfort. Today, Benjamin and Ashley have made a home in the country side of Tennessee, working the land and carrying on their lives as full-time musicians. As they tour regularly, perhaps you will see them roaming across the country in their van with their dog Copper.” -via Lost Dog’s Official Facebook
