ApologetiX - You Can Call Weird Al

Copied!edit Lyrics
original text at lyrnow.com/1999825
Verse 1
A man talks down to me
He says, “Why are your songs not original?”
Why are my songs not original?
Question my life. It's so hard
I see a golden opportunity
I wrote a song of redemption
Don't want to set up a bar-tune
With a cartoon savior
Go deeper, go deeper
God sent me new life
Found a way through my welded door
It was fearful and tearful and
Guess He must have waited for me
You know, I don't find His love elusive anymore

Chorus
And if you feel I'm bad at art
I can play along and I'd scowl
But I can call these parodies
And baby, if you doubt me you can call Weird Al

Verse 2
A man talks down to me
He says, “Why'd you write a song of redemption?”
‘Cause I'm sure there's a plan of redemption
And no one's righteous, no one
Therefore I write these parodies
Whatever I might hear
Spoofing at full throttle
Now if I wrote marvelous songs, songs
These folks might doubt me anyways
Some holy roller in a fact-based world
All along, along
There was information I presented
There were hints about salvation

Chorus
And if you feel I'm not an artist
I can feel you’re wrong but I’d smile
And I can call these parodies
And baby, if you doubt me you can call Weird Al
Call Weird Al

Interlude

Verse 3
A man talks down to me
He says, “These are some strange words”
Maybe it's the third verse
Maybe he's impressed I'm still around
Doesn't seem too angry
Shows more courtesy
He is my fellow man
He is astounded by the sound, sound
Catalyst for conversation
Shattering his own pretensions
He looks unwound, unbound
He sees changes in his heart through scripture
Grinning at the symmetry
He says, “Hey, man, now how'd you do that?”

Chorus
If you feel I'm not an artist
I can feel you’re wrong, but I’d smile
And I can call these parodies
And baby, if you doubt me you can call Weird Al
Call him

Bridge
Na na na na, na na na na
Na na na na, na na na-na na-na
Na na na na, na-na na-na na na
Na na na na, na na nananana

Outro
If you feel I'm bad at art
Oo-oo-oo-oo-oo-oo-oo-oo-oo-oo-oo
I can call these parodies
Ooo-oo-oooo-oo-ooo
If you feel I'm bad at art
Oo-oo-oo-oo-oo-oo-oo-oo-oo-oo-oo
I can call these parodies
Ooo-oo-oooo-oo-ooo

The song "You Can Call Weird Al" by ApologetiX is a fun and catchy tune that addresses the criticism the band receives for writing parodies instead of original songs. The lyrics talk about how the singer finds inspiration in creating parodies of popular songs to spread a message of redemption and faith. Despite facing judgment from others, the singer remains confident in their unique style and ability to connect with listeners through their music. The chorus encourages listeners to embrace the parodies and not to doubt the singer's talent, suggesting that they can always call on Weird Al Yankovic for validation. The upbeat melody and clever wordplay make this song a lighthearted and enjoyable listen for fans of both ApologetiX and Weird Al Yankovic.

edit bio
ApologetiX (That Christian Parody Band), located in Pittsburgh, PA, was founded in 1992. In the song “We’re in a Parody Band”, ApologetiX refers to itself as a cross between “Weird Al” Yankovic and Billy Graham.

ApologetiX rewrites secular songs with Christian lyrics. They get their unusual name from the word “apologetics”, which means “the defense of the Christian faith.” It is based on the Greek word for defense, “apologia”. The word is used in 1 Peter 3:15, “But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer (defense or "apologia”) to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect…“ (NIV). Their logo, a triquetra, is an ancient symbol of the Holy Trinity.
