Stampfel & Weber - My Name Is Morgan but It Ain't J.P.

A man named William Morgan took his girl to see a play
And on the journey homeward, they had stopped into a cafe
As soon as they were seated, Lily grabs the bill of fares
Then she went and ordered for everything was there

Billy says, “Girl I knows you're hungry but I just don’t like to steal
Who do you think is gon' to pay for such a meal?
Forget your champagne appetite, the best you'll get is beer tonight
My name is Morgan, but it ain’t J.P."

Willie married Lily, hopin' that girl would change her ways
What she did to William, first, I'm most afraid to say
One day, six big delivery wagons showed up at old Willie's door
Asked him to accept the goods while they went back for more
It did not take a-Willie long to go and get his hat and coat
When Lily came home that night, well she found a little note
And the note said:

My name is Morgan, but it ain't J.P
I guess you think I own some railroad company
I guess you've known me pretty long
But you got my initials wrong
My name is Morgan, but it ain't J.P

My name is Morgan, but it ain't J.P
I guess you think I own some piece of AT&T
I guess you’ve known me pretty long
But you got my initials wrong
My name is Morgan, but it ain’t J.P
My name is Morgan, but it ain't J.P

Stampfel & Weber's song "My Name Is Morgan but It Ain't J.P." tells the humorous story of a man named William Morgan and his girlfriend Lily. The lyrics recount how Lily orders an extravagant meal at a cafe, leaving William to foot the bill. Despite his protests, Lily continues to spend recklessly, leading William to leave her a note explaining that his name is Morgan, but he is not the wealthy J.P. Morgan that she seems to think he is.

The song humorously highlights the misunderstandings and miscommunications that can occur in relationships, as well as the importance of being true to oneself and not pretending to be something you're not. Stampfel & Weber's catchy tune and clever lyrics make "My Name Is Morgan but It Ain't J.P." a fun and entertaining musical story.
