Time - What Is the Medicine You Give?

We read the stars into myths just to heal our traumas
Constellations of pain I’m still connecting the losses
Pouring water out the dipper meditating in the sauna
Bury me with my songs each verse terracotta
My pen's a storyteller like Akira Kurosawa
My heart’s a Hidden Fortress I’m slicing through the cobwebs
What's a sword but an articulation of the truth?
It's an honor to heal, trauma's a sacred wound
I see wisdom in a stone, blue scarabs in a stream
I see a cave full of serpents between me and my dreams
I walk right through them as my footsteps echo
Fangs in my lеgs I feel the venom crescеndo
I walk without a care cause mori memento
The antidotes in my mind the rest is pretend though
I alchemize my feelings distill through the pelican
The steam takes the oil that's essential and relevant
Earth is intelligent she creates with elegance
With water and light she makes trees, us, and elephants
I’m learning to slow down and take care of my ghosts
I’m hugging my monsters instead of slicing their throats
I’m sharing silence with my demons I’m embracing the weird
I’m learning their names instead of running in fear
Evil is emptiness the ego is a temptress
When I was full of hate is when I felt the emptiest
When I let go, my cup filled this the testament
You could feed me pestilence I’m pissing out excellence
Eating all these beats I got snares in my intestines
Kicks in my stomach like I’m 9 months pregnant
I’m bout to birth another classic to my hater's detriment
I got blessings for the pessimists and prayers for their resentment
No writer's block impediment, I’m dropping shit like excrement
I'm spitting like expectorant, my bars stay prevalent
Open minds like Excedrin creation is my medicine
Show your wound to the world or it’ll start festering
Art's an antibiotic killing infections within
I’m murdering with bars each song is the evidence
Prosecution say I’m guilty every time the record spin
They cited my discography as the precedent
The jury broke their neck to the beat I left at recess
Rappers leave the stage and go to witness protection
No contestants wanna battle, the waiting room is desolate
You could dig my grave but I promise you will rest in it
And even if you kill me I’ll come back like a revenant
Dirty Lab regiment we're destined to win
Ambulances outside the venue mid rappers on the gurney
You don't need an agent you need a power of attorney
He said all your metaphors seem to deal with conflict
There's more to the hero’s journey then being accomplished
He said art shares experiences and glimpses of wonder
A dance between the vulnerable and chaotic conundrums
Humanity breathes in mistakes and exhales resilience
If everyone's your enemy then you're who the villain is
He said everyone hurts the grave makes us equal
What is the medicine that you give to other people?

Biography

edit bio
Time was a rock band from Yugoslavia that made a significant impact on the music scene in the 1970s. Formed in 1971 by Dado Topić, who had previously been a member of Korni Grupa, the band quickly gained a following with their unique blend of progressive rock and jazz influences.

The original lineup of Time included Dado Topić on vocals, Tihomir “Pop” Asanović on organ, Vedran Božić on guitar, Mario Mavrin on bass, Ratko Divjak on drums, and Brane Lambert Živković on piano and flute. Over the years, the lineup changed frequently, but the core members remained dedicated to creating innovative and captivating music.

Time released three albums during their time together, each showcasing their musical versatility and talent. Their first album featured a prominent Hammond organ, piano, and flute, while their second album had a harder sound with several ballads. The third album introduced a jazz-funk production style, further expanding their musical repertoire.

Some of Time's most popular songs include “Da li znaš da te volim”, “Rock ‘n’ roll u Beogradu”, and “Istina mašina”, which showcased their ability to create memorable and engaging music that resonated with audiences.

After disbanding in late 1977, Dado Topić embarked on a successful solo career, but the legacy of Time continued to live on. In 1998 and 2001, the band reunited for a limited number of live concerts, delighting fans with their timeless music and energetic performances.

Today, Time still plays together as a rock trio, continuing to captivate audiences with their unique sound and enduring musical legacy. Their influence can be heard in the work of many contemporary artists, solidifying their place in the history of Yugoslavian rock music.
