Biography
Tory Lanez draws inspiration for his energetic live performances from his father, who was a missionary preacher. He credits his father's ability to captivate an audience with his words and delivery for shaping his own stage presence and performance style.
Despite facing challenges such as the passing of his mother at a young age and experiencing homelessness, Tory Lanez found solace in music and began rapping at the age of nine. He released several mixtapes before dropping his debut studio album, I Told You, in 2016.
Over the years, Tory Lanez has continued to release music, including albums such as MEMORIES DON’T DIE, LoVE mE NOw?, Chixtape 5, and The New Toronto 3. However, his career faced a significant setback in 2020 when he was involved in a controversial altercation with fellow rapper Megan Thee Stallion, resulting in him being charged with gun possession and Megan being hospitalized.
In response to the incident, Tory Lanez released his sixth studio album, DAYSTAR, in September 2020. The album delves into the events surrounding the altercation and serves as Tory's way of telling his side of the story.
Despite the controversy surrounding him, Tory Lanez has continued to make music and remains a prominent figure in the rap and R&B scene. With his unique blend of styles and captivating performances, he has solidified his place in the music industry.
