The Grateful Dead - Saint of Circumstance

Copied!edit Lyrics

Verse 1
This must be heaven
Tonight I cross the line
You must be the angel
I thought I might never find
Was it you I heard singing
While I was chasing dreams?
Driven by the wind
Like the dust that blows around

Chorus
And the rain fallin' down now
Rain fallin' down

Verse 2
Got to be heaven
'Cause here's where the rainbow ends
If this ain't the real thing
Well, it's close enough to pretend
But when that wind blows
When the night's about to fall
I can hear the sirens call
It's a certain sort of sound

Chorus
When the rain fallin' down now
Rain fallin' down

Bridge
Holes in what's left of my reason
Holes in the knees of my blues
Odds against me been increasin'
But I'll pull through

Never could read no road map
No, I don't know what the weather might do
But hear that witch wind whinin'
See that dog star shinin'
I've got a feelin' there's no time to lose
No time to lose

I never know, no
Just don't ever know, no

Verse 3
Well, it's been heaven
But even rainbows will end
Now my sails are fillin'
And the wind is willin'
That I'm as good as gone again
I'm still walkin', so I'm sure that I can dance
Just a Saint of Circumstance
Just a tiger in a trance
In the rain fallin' down now

Bridge
Rain fallin' down
Rain fallin' down (Rain fallin' down)
Rain fallin' down now (Rain fallin' down)
Rain fallin' down (Rain fallin' down)
Rain fallin' down (Rain fallin' down)

Instrumental Break

Outro
Well, never know now
Just don't ever know
I know, listen
I sure don't know what I'm going for
(Don't know now)
But I'm gonna go for it for sure
I sure don't know what I'm going for
(No, I never know now)
But I'm gonna go for it for sure
('Cause I always go now)
Listen, I sure don't know what I'm going for (Ha)
But I'm gonna go for it for sure
Hey, I sure don't know what I'm going for
(Maybe crazy, maybe out of line now)
But I'm going to go for it for sure
(I'm on the road and I'm feeling fine now)
Hey, I sure don't know what I'm going for
(Got to go now, ha)
But I'm gonna go for it for sure
('Cause you never know now)
I sure don't know what I'm going for
(I never, never know)
But I'm gonna go for it for sure
(Got, got, got to go)
I sure don't know what I'm going for
(Maybe going on a dream now)
But I'm gonna go for it for sure
(Maybe going on a feeling, maybe going on a feeling)

Biography

edit bio
Amidst the growing counter-culture scene in the San Francisco Bay Area, The Grateful Dead were founded by lead guitarist/vocalist Jerry Garcia, bass player Phil Lesh, rhythm guitarist Bob Weir, keyboardist Ron “Pigpen” McKernan, and drummer Bill Kreutzmann in Palo Alto in 1965, originally as The Warlocks. Percussionist Mickey Hart later joined the group in 1967 and other members cycled through the group in following years as the core remained intact. Their eclectic music formed the archetype for the “Jam Band” genre, combining elements from rock, blues, folk, country, bluegrass, and psychedelic music into improvisational performances.

Over the years the Dead released 22 recorded albums, although they were most famous for their improvisational jams at concerts, earning them a cult-like following of self-proclaimed “Dead Heads” who would follow the band from concert-to-concert throughout the band’s career.

The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994 and they’ve sold more than 40 million albums in total; all that with only one top 40 hit (“Truckin”), and one Top 10 hit (“Touch of Grey”) that came near the end of the band’s run, shortly before Jerry Garcia’s death in 1995. Grateful Dead was also ranked 57th in Rolling Stone’s “The Greatest Artists of All Time” issue in 2004 and 2005. Since then, various incarnations of the Dead have continued to tour, although a 2015 farewell tour was said to be the band’s last.

In 2015 Bob Weir, Mickey Hart, and Bill Kreutzmann started a new group called Dead and Company with John Mayer, Allman Brothers bassist Oteil Burbridge, and former Dead keyboardist Jeff Chimenti which Weir has said may have a future in the studio and will continue to tour in coming years.

In 2008, The Grateful Dead named the University of California, Santa Cruz McHenry Library as the home of their complete archival history, including their recorded music, live bootlegs, and artworks. The collections are are now housed at UC Santa Cruz.
