John Noir Smith - Oh My Darling, Clementine

To Rate
In a cavern, in a canyon
Excavating for a mine
Dwelt a miner, forty-niner
And his daughter Clementine

Oh my darling, oh my darling
Oh my darling Clementine
You are lost and gone forever
Dreadful sorry, Clementine

Walking lightly as a fairy
Though her shoes were number nine
Sometimes tripping, lightly skipping
Lovely girl, my Clementine
Oh my darling, oh my darling
Oh my darling Clementine
You are lost and gone forever
Dreadful sorry, Clementinе

Drove the ducklings to the watеr
Every morning just at nine
Hit her foot against a splinter
Fell into the foaming brine

Oh my darling, oh my darling
Oh my darling Clementine
You are lost and gone forever
Dreadful sorry, Clementine

Ruby lips above the water
Blowing bubbles soft and fine
But alas, I was no swimmer
Neither was my Clementine

Oh my darling, oh my darling
Oh my darling Clementine
You are lost and gone forever
Dreadful sorry, Clementine

In a churchyard near the canyon
Where the myrtle does entwine
There grow rosies and some posies
Fertilized by Clementine
Oh my darling, oh my darling
Oh my darling Clementine
You are lost and gone forever
Dreadful sorry, Clementine

Then the miner, forty-niner
Soon began to fret and pine
Thought he oughta join his daughter
So he's now with Clementine

Oh my darling, oh my darling
Oh my darling Clementine
You are lost and gone forever
Dreadful sorry, Clementine

I'm so lonely, lost without her
Wish I'd had a fishing line
Which I might have cast about her
Might have saved my Clementine

Oh my darling, oh my darling
Oh my darling Clementine
You are lost and gone forever
Dreadful sorry, Clementine

In my dreams she still does haunt me
Robed in garments soaked with brine
Then she rises from the waters
And I kiss my Clementine
Oh my darling, oh my darling
Oh my darling Clementine
You are lost and gone forever
Dreadful sorry, Clementine

Listen fellers, heed the warning
Of this tragic tale of mine
Artificial respiration
Could have saved my Clementine

Oh my darling, oh my darling
Oh my darling Clementine
You are lost and gone forever
Dreadful sorry, Clementine

How I missed her, how I missed her
How I missed my Clementine
Til I kissed her little sister
And forgot my Clementine

Oh my darling, oh my darling
Oh my darling Clementine
You are lost and gone forever
Dreadful sorry, Clementine

Oh my darling, oh my darling
Oh my darling Clementine
You are lost and gone forever
Dreadful sorry, Clementine

John Noir Smith

Born in Drammen, Norway, with roots from all over Europe (as well as India). I started playing music – as well as writing my own songs – back in 2008. It started off with the harmonica, then the bass guitar (which led to a lot of experimental music), before turning to the guitar, synthesizers, ukulele, drums, and more later on.

Making music has become something I really enjoy, and I always hope that someone else will get something out of it as well. I hope one day that my music will go down in musical history, but I don’t really stress too much about it. If it doesn’t then what I made probably hit anyone else as it did to me, and that’s okay too. The most important thing was having fun while doing it, and actually getting some value out of it myself.

I realize that my belief in Buddhism tends to sneak into my lyrics here and there, and my lifestyle as a minimalist does tend to materialize in certain chord progressions and the likes. “Lunatic” is actually a great example of this: two chords (which is very minimal) and references to “dukkha”. “No Reason Why” is another, lyrically, as it contains references to “dukkha”, “dhamma” and being a monk.
I am also a big fan of humor, and this too manifests itself in my music (in songs like “One More Slice of Pizza” and “What If All the Witch Trials Were Right #2”).
I’ve tried a lot of genres, as I like different kinds of music myself. This is intentional, and I may breeze through them all one day.
