Dehd
Dehd is an American rock band from Chicago, IL, consisting of guitarist-vocalist Jason Balla (Earring and NE-HI), bassist-vocalist Emily Kempf (VAIL, Lala Lala and plenty of other bands) and drummer Eric McGrady. Dehd’s music blends together post-punk, jangle pop, garage folk, surf and lo-fi.

The group formed in summer 2015 as a side-project for Balla and Kempf to explore their budding romantic relationship. The name Dehd is the acronym of their then solo-projects, Balla’s Dream Eagle and Kempf’s Heavy Dreams. Their best friend Eric McGrady, who had never played drums before, joined them and the trio released their eponymous debut project in 2016.

In summer 2017, Balla and Kempf broke up but Dehd persevered, and shortly after the two of them began writing Dehd’s first proper full-lenght, Water, which wasn’t released until May 2019, a few weeks after Balla’s previous band, Ne-Hi split up.
