I’ve been looking all over
Trying to find a place to lay my head
I used to have a house and a spouse
Now it’s hers instead
I thought I had a friend
I was knocking on his door
Trying to remind him what friends are for
But I think he’s dead

I saw his neighbor on the front porch looking pretty stoned
His dog was in the backyard
Chewing on a bone
There’s nobody home
Nobody home
I saw a church with a sign it was open
So I stepped inside
It said “double your misery back if you ain’t satisfied “
I thought, this deal can’t last, I better cash in quick
Get it all done before I get too sick to find my way outsidе

I saw a Saint with his mouth open, carved out of stone
A prеacher with his mouth shut staring at his phone
But there’s nobody home
There wasn’t nobody home

I saw a big white house down on Pennsylvania avenue
I said “open up the gate, this can’t wait”, and they said “who are you?”
I said I was a citizen trying to cut a deal for a Russian unicycle with a missing wheel
They let me through

I saw a clown with a comb-over trying to float a loan through the CIA while he tweeted on his phone
But there’s nobody home
There wasn’t nobody home

It’s getting hard to maintain connections in a personal way
Everybody wants to text but they ain’t got nothing to say
Yeah believe me when I tell you it’s like being alone hanging out with numbers in a cyber zone
Yeah you pay to play

It’ll drive you crazy right around the bend
Pretty soon you’re talking to yourself again
And there ain’t nobody home
Nobody home
