Indigo Girls - Muster

Copied!edit Lyrics
original text at lyrnow.com/130204
Verse 1
All of the daddies were weathered
All of the mommas were torn
Still the whole village came in their finest to see
What could possibly be born
Out of a house divided, in a world so brutal and maimed
But then we saw the kids and found ourselves saying

Chorus 1
We’re gonna make it up to you
Every day of our life
We’re gonna make it up
We’re gonna get this right

Verse 2
Some people held their daddy’s guns
Me, I hung mine on the wall
For every war, we could have won
Without shooting them at all
Is this the best we could muster?
Custer or just prayers for the slain
I wanna get this right and not the same old thing

Chorus
I wanna make this up to you
Every day of my life
I wanna make this up
I wanna get this right

Verse 3
Born of privilege, born of none
Hunger, disease, it’s all a gun
Clean your plate kid, I want you to understand
The isolation we breed, the hunger in Yemen

It’s your first lock down, you’re so young
But so are the kids under the barrel bombs
It’s the evil we helped let loose, it’s what we’ve become
It’s all a gun, it’s all a gun

Verse 4
I don’t know where we come from, what I know is that we ain’t done
We got the river running, we got the animal cunning
The back of a turtle, the Garden of Eden, the cosmic dust
Why do we keep on gunning?
I got no use for these ramparts, ivory towers or the lines in the sand
I think enough of the time, we want the same thing

Chorus
We gonna make it up to you
Every day of our lives
We wanna make it up
We wanna get this right

Biography

edit bio
The Indigo Girls (Amy Ray and Emily Sailers) are an award-winning folk rock duo. They met in elementary school and began performing together while in high school as a cover band at parties and talent shows. Eventually the two reconnected at Emory College (after a brief separation while attending different universities) and began writing original music, releasing a six-track EP in 1985. Their first full-length album Strange Fire followed in 1987.

After signing with Epic Records in 1988, their eponymous sophomore album arrived the following year, featuring their first Hot 100 hit (and signature song) “Closer To Fine”. Within seven months, the album was certified gold by the RIAA so Epic rushed to re-release Strange Fire, adding a cover of the 1960s Youngbloods hit “Get Together” that was featured on the television show The Wonder Years.

As of 2013, the Indigo Girls had been nominated for several Grammy awards (winning one) and sold over 7 million records, with six of their albums being certified gold or above. They are also known for their activism in many social and political concerns like Native American land rights, environmental issues, gun safety, death penalty abolishment, and gay and lesbian rights.
