Well, i stood by the rail, and i watched them do their warmups

Well, then i saw a horse kinda crawl outta the paddock
It hobbled on down the track, and as it passed on by
I swear he turned his head and looked right at me
He shook his mane, then he winked his eye

His yearly earnings stood at just about fifty bucks
It said he didn't run all that well on a, on a dry track
He did a little worse in the rain and the muck

Oh, he'd had some decent races up in litchfield

The odds goin' off were 600-to-1 against him

But i just felt like tearin' up my tickets
'cause it was clear that i had squandered my last buck
But then sumpin' happened, as they made that last turn
Ol' hussey's heart began to make his move
And from the backstretch he charged like hercules' chariot
And i swear i saw some sparks fly from his hooves
