Copied!edit Lyrics
original text at lyrnow.com/2010351
Verse 1
I met her at a party
A friend of a friend had thrown
To celebrate his birthday
A brilliant excuse to get stoned

Verse 2
She said that I was crazy
To even try to understand
I said that she was lazy
But she told me to look at my hand

Chorus
She said
Life is just like
Painting the Forth Bridge
With a toothbrush
In the full knowledge
That when it's done
It will be begun again

Verse 3
We wandered into the garden
And cried into our beer
We knelt under the yew tree
And wished it a thousand morе years
See The Divine Comedy LiveGet tickets as low as $96 Verse 4
We argued by thе lakeside
Until I pushed her in
So we swam out to an island
Which frightened us out of our skin

Chorus
She said
Life is just like
Crossing the Severn
Paying a toll
To get you to heaven
And when you're in
Life begins again

Verse 5
Her words flew up to heaven
My thoughts remained below
Words said without feeling
Never to heaven go

Never to heaven go
Never to heaven go (Never to heaven go)

Outro
She said
Life is just like
Painting the Forth Bridge
With a toothbrush
In the full knowledge
That when it's done
Others will come
To toil in hail, rain
Wind, snow and sun
When all is said
I'm done my life is yours
And yours is mine

The song's poignant chorus emphasizes the idea that life is a constant journey of beginnings and endings, echoing the timeless struggle of painting a bridge that can never truly be finished. With poetic imagery and introspective lyrics, "Painting the Forth Bridge" invites listeners to reflect on the fleeting nature of time and the enduring beauty of human connection.
