Penny & Sparrow - Mattering Ram

Tell me, do you think I’m pretty?
Could you think it louder
Oh I’d like to hear it
Guess I think it matters

Tell me one good story
Pay me by the hour
I got more than one though
Open up with Nemo

He and Esperanza
Fuckin in the shower
Everybody heard em
I don’t think it matters

Johnny took a photo
On his old Suzuki
Wasn’t wearing clothes though
Still he gave it to me

Hang it in the front room
Let it bring you laughter
People gonna talk soon
They don’t really matter

Growing up I had dreams
Women, legs akimbo
Hell was thеre to tell me
All that shit was sinful
Loving in thе backseat
Keep on smiling after
Unwed denim preheat
All of it still matters

I been on 14ers
Even lost my mind once
Carl had to save me
Carl he’s a good one

Do you mean the uncle
Or the sturdy hiker
Hard of hearing father
Either way it matters

When I held depression
Tennis came and held me
The Australian open
Medicine’s a mystery

Was it a placebo?
Was it a distractor?
Tell me how the wind blows
Tell me if it matters

Jeff and I were patient
Waiting on Mcartney
We weren’t gonna miss him
Showed up hours early
Look at how we’re crying
Hear that nervous chatter
He ain’t sang a note yet
That don’t even matter

Can I always have you?
Doctor & Companion
You can always have me
Shot out of a cannon

I got seven league boots
I can get there faster
But if I still miss you
Does it even matter?

Did y’all pull the goalie?
I hate when they say that
It ain’t always easy
It ain’t ever old hat

I don’t know the future
Shout it from the rafters
You don’t know it either
I don’t think it matters

We ain’t lacking nothing
Y’all ain’t lacking either
Used to have that backwards
Let us learn what matters
I got two more questions
Can I use your ashtray?
How then shall we function
Any given Wednesday?

You could paint with charcoal
Every Tuesday’s fatter
If you ain’t got love though
Does it even matter?

Biography

edit bio
Penny & Sparrow is an Americana/soft-folk duo based in Florence, Alabama. The band consists of singer/lyricist Andy Baxter and multi-instrumentalist Kyle Jahnke. Baxter and Jahnke initially began making music together while roommates at University of Texas in Austin, taking the name “Penny & Sparrow” from the title of a friend’s blog. Their music is intimate, quiet, introspective, and paired with deeply honest, profound, and poetic lyrics that strike the listener as being intensely personal. The duo also has a penchant for literary references and frequently share what they are reading, watching, and listening to.

Their often-weighty and melancholy music is sharply contrasted by the duo’s quick wit and banter. Frequently self-described as “not here for a bad time,” Penny & Sparrow comfortably fill their live performances with laughter and casual conversations with the audience.
