Mariah Carey
Mariah Carey, born on March 27, 1970, is a multi-talented American artist known for her powerful vocals, chart-topping hits, and impressive range. She began her career under the guidance of Columbia Records executive Tommy Mottola, releasing her self-titled debut album in 1990. The album was a massive success, going multi-platinum and producing four number one singles on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart.
After marrying Mottola in 1993, Carey continued to achieve success with hit records like “Emotions” (1991), “Music Box” (1993), and “Merry Christmas” (1994). Her album Daydream (1995) made music history with the record-breaking sixteen-week run of the single “One Sweet Day”, a duet with Boyz II Men. However, Carey's musical style began to shift towards hip hop with the release of Butterfly (1997), coinciding with her separation from Mottola.
In 2000, Carey left Columbia and signed a lucrative $100 million recording contract with Virgin Records. However, she faced personal struggles and a career setback after the release of her first feature film, Glitter (2001). Following the film's poor reception, Carey was bought out of her contract for $50 million. She then signed with Island Records in 2002 and made a successful comeback with The Emancipation of Mimi (2005), which included the hit single "We Belong Together."
In addition to her music career, Carey has also ventured into acting, receiving critical acclaim for her role in the film Precious (2009). She has been recognized with various awards and nominations for her performances, showcasing her versatility as a performer.
Throughout her career, Mariah Carey has proven to be a resilient and talented artist, continuously evolving and pushing boundaries in the music industry. With her powerhouse vocals and impressive discography, she has solidified her status as one of the best-selling music artists of all time.
