Brooklyn Queen - Trying To Breathe

Verse 1

Four hundred years we’ve been fighting for this
Living just to fight
We’re just fighting to live
It’s like we fighting for our rights
And a right to exist
Imagine how the world looks through the life of a kid
You don’t what we been through
Figure cuz we Black then you know what we into

Trayvon coulda been you
Breonna coulda been me
Yeah I’m just stating facts
Crazy how we say we love you
But you can’t say it back
Prayers feel different
When yo momma hopes you make it back
Getting pulled over by the cops
Seeing how they react
How you’re whole race against us
Knowing God gave us that

I’m not tryna change the world
Just tryna change the act
I just wanna feel it
Everybody treated the same
But I’m the realest
I can see how far we done came
We don’t deserve that
This life, we’re taking it back
You don’t know what it’s like to be Black

Chorus

Can you blame us?
We been fighting for a cause
And they still make us die for respect
Can you blame us?
Tryna take a knee for some
And they still got their knees on our necks

We’re just trying to breathe
Breathe
We’re just trying to breathe
We’re just trying to breathe, ahhhhh

We’re just trying to breathe
Please Lord help us breathe
We’re just trying to breathe
Help us to survive Lord

Verse 2

Imagine walking down the street
Being followed and somebody approach you
‘Cause they feeling like you don’t belong
A pack of skittles and some tea
Got him feeling a little intimidated
You ain’t even did n’un wrong
So we’re supposed to turn a cheek
When you’re preying on the weak
Got the wrong generation
We ain’t tryna hear no speech
We ain’t tryna hear you speak
We ain’t tryna see the hatred that you teach
Got the the whole nation bouta hit the streets
Ahhhh

I won’t be quiet
It’s only right that we riot
My ancestors done fought
And we fighting to stay alive
Big shoes to fill and I’m following right behind
Screaming Black Lives Matter
You know I’m covering mine

See the how come
What you know about some
Real revolutionaries
I’m following Malcolm
I support the cause
Y’all just do it for ya album
Tryna see results
I won’t stop until the outcome
Come

Chorus
Can you blame us?
We been fighting for a cause
And they still make us die for respect
Can you blame us?
Tryna take a knee for some
And they still got their knees on our necks

We’re just trying to breathe
Ohhhhhhhhh breathe
We’re just trying to breathe
Trying to breathe

We’re just trying to breathe
We keep fighting, fighting a good fight
We’re just trying to breathe
Lord wrap us around your loving arms

Brooklyn Queen

Inspired by gratitude, positivity and Beyoncé, 15-year-old Brooklyn Queen wrote her first song at age five. The Detroit native fulfilled an early dream of releasing that song on her 2017 debut album Queens Corner. Since 2020 began, she has released nine new singles as of July, and has five more already lined up for release.

Brooklyn Queen has already built a powerful and loyal fan base. “I want to make it clear to young girls that anything is possible if you just follow your dreams,” she asserts.

Backed by BMB Entertainment and The Orchard, Brooklyn will set her vision to new heights as a multi-faceted artist, actress and credible teen influencer.
