Biography

edit bio
From Hayward, California, multi-instrumentalist Ian Santillano started teaching himself how to play a real guitar after years of playing Guitar Hero. Soon after, Ian’s cousin introduced him to John Mayer’s “Continuum” and Ian’s life changed forever. Discovering D'Angelo’s “Voodoo” and later Kendrick Lamar’s “To Pimp A Butterfly” along with all the musicians involved in making those records would play a huge role in shaping Ian’s melodic-funky-soulful sound. In college, Ian would sharpen his music skills through hours of practice and private lessons in the Santa Clara University music program, learning jazz and music theory – all whilst getting a degree in computer engineering. Now at 24, Ian explores his own artistry by writing, arranging, producing, and recording original music with his guitars, his instruments, and his voice. Lush pads, funky drums, dreamy vocals, and aggressive guitar solos become a bed for Ian to lyricise his message of honesty and self experience – whether it be about love, indecision, or admitting one’s faults. Ian has a sound all his own: “Greasy Mayer” – melodic funky soul singer-songwriter with a touch of jazz vocabulary.
