Warumpi Band - Secret War

Copied!edit Lyrics
original text at lyrnow.com/2048067
Verse 1
This is a story of colonization
It's a story that's been told before
It's the blood of Indigenous races
On the hands of invading force

There's a government and an army
Not far from these north shores
And the tribesmen in the jungle
They fight a secret war

Verse 2
You won't read it in the papers
You won't even know the score
You won't see the mutilation
You won't know what the fighting's for

But the men with the bow and arrows
Facing guns of foreign power
They see the soldiers, they see the shooting
They see thе planes and the villages burning

Chorus
Sеcret, secret, secret war
Secret war
Refugees on your own back fence now
Why can't you open your door?
What's wrong with our own damn nation
Why can't we open our door?

Secret, secret, secret war
Secret war
This is a secret war
Secret war (x4)

Verse 3
Courage is the heart of the OPM
Now, what's in the heart of me and you?
Does it run in the heart of people for freedom
Same as it flows it flowed in the Kalkadoons?
Oh

Chorus

This is a story of colonization
It's a story that's been told before
It's the blood of Indigenous races
On the hands of invading force

Arguably one of the most well-known Indigenous Australian bands ever, the Warumpi Band’s name derives from the Honey Ant dreaming site near Papunya, which is 260 kilometres west of Alice Springs in the Northern Territory.
The rock band formed in 1980 with three main members, Neil Murray from Victoria, Sammy Butcher from Papunya and George Burarrwanga from Elcho Island. Their songs are in English, Luritja and Gumatj.
