Why won't you and I escape from this gilded age
Away from this crumbling world
We can sail away on the seven seas
On a porcelain ship, with satin sails, on seas of mercury

We will coax the monsters
Out from their deepest trenches
To meet Surya's warm rays
We will relive the purity and innocence, before the Fall of man

In our utopia
We will make a nest of fresh grass and lace
And spend endless nights
Solving the mysteries of the Arnolfini portrait

We will never experience apathy, ennui, nor despair
We will be far from the scourge of disease
And grow forbidden fruit from a tree
And eat from it without fear or guilt

Each day will have the glory of all four seasons
Everything will be sublime
Every day will be divine
It is only a universe away

Just you and me
We can live as immortals
Forever nubile
Forever fertile

Your flesh in mine
Won't you come with me
Only if you want to

When the jarring silence confronts you
Reply with a melodious, well-strung haiku
When faced with nothing but shards and smithereens of a flawed existence
A glorious train wreck, on her maiden voyage to a phantom promise land

Detesting the white light of truth
It’s unflattering glare
Leaving nothing bare

Penetrating the thickest smog of ignorance
Gasping for air as your flounder and flail
Your face pressed against a glass ceiling

Silence
White light
Greatest nemesis

What we need is a baptism of fire
A tabula rasa
Fertile soils to sow the seeds of a new world
But will we emerge scarred or unscathed

Huddle with me
In a foetal gnarl
How cathartic it must be
Toba has awaken

All is white hot
All is chaos
Happy now
They put down their shotguns and bibles

Indeed, purgatory is at our door steps
One thousand years of darkness
And finally, the long awaited rapture has arrived
Sucking the self righteous into its clouds

But not you, not me
I’d like us to be left behind on this godforsaken wasteland
To witness the apocalypse
Climbing trees
To have a glimpse of the world
Crumbling, nevertheless
