Chorus
We were golden before this shade of brown
We were fine till our love went southbound
This is why we, this is why we vibe like this
Sitting on the roof with a midnight kiss

Verse One
We were both something great
Before you were out on your own
We both stars in the night sky
That were bound to explode

You were ice in my tundra cold
Freezing me at 10 below
I was fire in your netherworld
Burning you up at the post

Chorus
Wе were golden bеfore this shade of brown
We were fine till our love went southbound
This is why we, this is why we vibe like this
Sitting on the roof with bottled up bliss

We were orange like the sky at sundown
We were thriving till the fireplace burned out
This is why we, this is why we vibe like this
Sitting on the roof with a midnight kiss

Verse Two
You were great at being someone else
While I’ll still being a kid
You taught me some lessons on life
Taught me stories that I never read

You were sun on a gloomy day
But the kinda day you want the rain
I was thunder on the Kansas hills
And my lightning was the added pain

Chorus
We were golden before this shade of brown
We were fine till our love went southbound
This is why we, this is why we vibe like this
Sitting on the roof with bottled up bliss

We were orange like the sky at sundown
We were thriving till the fireplace burned out
This is why we, this is why we vibe like this
Sitting on the roof with a midnight kiss

Bridge
You were worth all the pain and destruction
But you weren’t worth the mental disruption
And all our problems now aren’t yours to lose
And I’ve been carrying the baggage that’s been left by you

"Midnight Kiss" by Joseph A.A. is a heartfelt song that explores the complexities of a past relationship. The chorus reflects on the golden moments of the past that have now turned into a shade of brown, symbolizing the changes and challenges that the couple has faced. The lyrics paint a vivid picture of two individuals who were once great together but eventually went their separate ways.

The verses delve into the emotions and dynamics of the relationship, highlighting the contrast between the two partners. One was described as ice in the tundra cold, while the other was fire in the netherworld, emphasizing the conflicting nature of their personalities. Despite the differences, there was a deep connection between them, symbolized by the midnight kiss shared on the roof.

As the song progresses, it becomes evident that the relationship was not without its struggles and pain. The bridge acknowledges the worth of the past love but also recognizes the mental toll it took on the narrator. The chorus repeats the theme of lost love and fading happiness, reminiscing about the vibrant orange sky at sundown that now feels like a distant memory.

In the end, "Midnight Kiss" captures the bittersweet essence of a love that once burned bright but has now dimmed. The song is a poignant reflection on the complexities of relationships and the lingering impact they leave behind.

I have always loved to write and make music, and after looking up to so many of my favorite artists for so long, I decided to release my debut single, “seasons” on December 24, 2020. I wrote this song in under twenty minutes and ended up recording it in the same day.

While I loved working with that song, I knew exactly what I wanted my style to sound like for my sophomore single. I wanted an upbeat pop song that was completely unexpected and out of nowhere. I wrote “self reflection” with that mindset and kept that idea in the back of my mind.

I wanted “self reflection” to sound like the happier, continued version of “seasons” where the storyline character really found what they wanted and where they were going, and accepted the fact that there are two sides to a relationship, and it’s not one person’s obligation to take ownership for both people in that relationship.

I’m currently working on my debut album, and I cannot wait to share it with you as soon as I can!
