Time - Chopping Onions

Copied!edit Lyrics

Rest in Peace Sean P, Rest in Peace Prodigy
Their influence immortal even though they're gone bodily
Brain like Einstein blasting bars like a space shuttle
Back when Ice Cube was fucking around with triple doubles
I was bumping Mobb Deep stomping through city puddles
I was Hell on Earth, hype like coming out the huddle
MP3s burnt CDs and cheap weed was the hustle
Back when you could get jumped for Iverson's or a shuffle
Hopped up on hormones we just wanted to dead something
Treating North Denver like sleepy hollow we were hunt hunting
Shoplifting, bag snatching, petty theft and Smashing Pumpkins
I was a Bullet with Butterfly Wings till the cops took my thumbprint
I had fines to pay so I started chopping up onions
Not talking bout selling drugs I was crying chopping onions
Working in the hospital kitchen I was really chopping onions
Freestyling and mopping that kitchen was my dojo dungeon
I met Ed in the kitchen he played jazz and saxophone
He showed me Charles Earland he gave me CDs like Stepping Stones
He was like a mentor, a father figure chaperone
He said calm down your ego he spoke truth through a megaphone
We sat down and had tea when I was going through episodes
He helped me with battles I didn't know he was battling methadone
I caught him in the bathroom with a needle in his arm
He said it was insulin I pretended not to be alarmed
Usually the ones who smile and help are hurting the most
I asked how he was doing he said fine in a disturbing tone
Most of us hide the pain feeling we deserve to be alone
Feeling dead but alive, a type of inverted ghost
I buried all of my problems hoping that they'd turn to bone
But they broke from their grave and emerged into my home
This was shortly after my boss said that Ed OD'd
I said ok and turned on the TV, that's how Americans grieve
But I woke from my hypnosis, in the pen I found release
AwareNess said let's make this music we have things to achieve
So I would mop then clock out then work in the lab all night
Sometimes you got to dance with darkness to waltz with the light
If you harbor fear too long then hate might dock
My friend keep robbing houses but he couldn't escape the cops
My mind has many shackles it's hard to break the locks
Sometimes we think we have time but then death takes the clock

Biography

edit bio
Time was a rock band from Yugoslavia that made a significant impact on the music scene in the 1970s. Formed in 1971 by Dado Topić, who had previously been a member of Korni Grupa, the band quickly gained a following with their unique blend of progressive rock and jazz influences.

The original lineup of Time included Dado Topić on vocals, Tihomir “Pop” Asanović on organ, Vedran Božić on guitar, Mario Mavrin on bass, Ratko Divjak on drums, and Brane Lambert Živković on piano and flute. Over the years, the lineup changed frequently, but the core members remained dedicated to creating innovative and captivating music.

Time released three albums during their time together, each showcasing their musical versatility and talent. Their first album featured a prominent Hammond organ, piano, and flute, while their second album had a harder sound with several ballads. The third album introduced a jazz-funk production style, further expanding their musical repertoire.

Some of Time's most popular songs include “Da li znaš da te volim”, “Rock ‘n’ roll u Beogradu”, and “Istina mašina”, which showcased their ability to create memorable and engaging music that resonated with audiences.

After disbanding in late 1977, Dado Topić embarked on a successful solo career, but the legacy of Time continued to live on. In 1998 and 2001, the band reunited for a limited number of live concerts, delighting fans with their timeless music and energetic performances.

Today, Time still plays together as a rock trio, continuing to captivate audiences with their unique sound and enduring musical legacy. Their influence can be heard in the work of many contemporary artists, solidifying their place in the history of Yugoslavian rock music.
